The Doctor's Atonement - Review & Feedback

After a very long wait we've finally released our new Doctor Who story. But did it work?

We have received a small amount of criticism from the movie which is new because normally we get very little or none. This is most likely because our fan base is slowly getting bigger, meaning more people with strong opinions come and go, and we do enjoy getting feedback from the viewers.

The bad things with the movie:

  1. Too Short: A lot of people commented saying they felt the movie was over to quick and would have preferred a longer one. The reason the movie was short is because a lot of our longer videos don't have many views and 25 minutes felt like a good length for a fan film
  2. It was confusing: The big complain was the story didn't make much sense and that's understandable, the movie is tying up a lot of lose ends from Series 2 & 3. If you haven't seen those episodes, then the movie is quite confusing. Also having two doctors, who have the same Tardis and same locations but never meeting can be quite confusing.
  3. The theme song: When it came to making the opening for the movie, we wanted to try something different, so we got in contact with a YouTuber called 'Soundsmyth Productions' and we asked them if we could use a theme they had created. So far the intro hasn't been criticised, just the theme song. A few felt it should be more up beat. The reason for it being a deep pitch is because the movie and the series will go down a much darker route.
  4. Didn't like the regeneration: Towards the end of the movie we see Tom Skinner's Doctor regenerate into Mark Bray's Doctor, we decided to try something different in this movie and we inverted colours and made it glow a bright dark colour. Some people in the comments didn't like this, luckily a regeneration isn't a common thing we do, so if we have any future regenerations, then we will make sure its enjoyable for everyone.
  5. Wasn't very interesting: So the movie didn't have much action, a few fight scenes but no explosions or real threats. We find this a very hard thing to do in fan films, but we will try and find a way around it for future stories. So far Series 4 has a lot more action planned and we hope that it pleases everyone.

The good things with the movie:
  1. Tardis Interior: So a few months ago we released a Tardis Tour video which got a lot of people excited for the movie. Seeing it in an actual story seems to have pleased everyone and so far no one has complained about any inside the Tardis.
  2. Good filming: Quite a few people put in the comments how much they enjoyed the camera angles and focusing. This is good to hear as 'moving image' is one of our strong points. Series 4 will have a lot more camera techniques and we will be using more than one camera to film scenes.
  3. The intro: A lot criticised the theme song but enjoyed the new intro. So far the intro is here to stay and will be used for the Christmas Special and Series 4. The theme song is currently being looked at and might change, but for now the intro stays the same.
  4. The acting: A lot of people praised Samuel Moore's performance as The Doctor, one person commented "Samuel Moore was actually in his best performance in this episode" a lot of people enjoyed the past Doctor and his darker side. Overall acting seemed to be on point.
  5. Cameo Master: For those of you who are long time viewers will know that Ben Durrant played The Master in 2015-16. It was a big shock at the time to find out 'spoilers' that Daniel Jefferson was The Master all along. Seeing Ben return to MB & Homeland after nearly 2 years is a great treat and a lot of people have praised this in the comment section.

Overall the movie received mixed reviews. Some people gave it a 5.5 or 6 out of 10. Others gave it an 8 out of 10. There are some good bits, but also some bad bits which sadly weights the film down a lot. Meaning its an average episode, perhaps leaning towards above average but not great. An overall decent story with some highs and lows.

News Update / Gameplay / Political Rage Season 3 Cancelled!!!

As of 2018 we will no longer be making the News Update & Gameplay monthly. Instead we will be extending our podcasts to come out monthly instead of every two months. The podcast will feature gameplay as well as updating so it is basically a merge of the two.
Brandon & Jordan hosting
the News Update

The reason for cancelling these two videos is because they are becoming hard to make, and a lot of the members at MB & Homeland haven't got the time to make them, but the podcast will become monthly so we will have a video every month discussing what's been happening at MB & Homeland.
Sam, Tom and Mark in the
first ever Podcast

There will not be a Political Rage Season 3, instead we will bring out either a full length movie or short film to wrap up the plot of it. This will most likely come out late 2018.
Sam & Mark acting
in Political Rage

The sudden cancelling of shows is not something to be worried about. This time last year we cancelled Race To The White House and Behind The Lens. We are all slowly getting older and older, meaning we are having less time to have fun and make videos, so the more we focus on the bigger stuff like Star Wars & Doctor Who, then the better the content will be.

Doctor Who Series 4: 15 weeks later - What do we know?

It's been 15 weeks since filming began on Series 4. The 27th June was when filming began and now 15 weeks later, what do we know?
A post shared by Mark Bray (@markbray03051998) on
So from what we've learnt in previous blog posts and other sites such as Instagram and Twitter. We know that filming is 52% done, and everyone is currently on a break. But there's more, there are a total of 6 scripts for Series 4, and a total of 304 pages overall.
Graham Bray & Tom Skinner
On location with the Tardis

Out of those 304 pages, 227 have been filmed, leaving just 77. As a percentage this means 74.6% of the scripts are done, leaving 25.3% pages left. Apparently one script still hasn't been written and work has not begun on this episode.
Tom Ford & Samuel Moore

So far, we don't know any names of any episodes, except for one. A few months ago, MB & Homeland posted a group photo which had a clapper board in the corner. On this clapperboard was written "Perfect World" which we assume is one of the episodes. Apart from that we know nothing. We don't know who the companion is, no idea any monsters or villains, and its going to be a long time until its revealed.

"Series 4 is a love story with a twist" - Doctor Who Series 4

Loads more filming has happened on the Series 4 of MB & Homeland's Doctor Who. It is reported that they are now 35% the way through filming and have only filmed 14 times so far.
Filming on Series 4

There has been so much talk about Series 4 but we still don't know much. For example: How many episodes? Who's the companion? Any returning actors? What about the interior?
Harri Thompson & Samuel Moore

Mark Bray has said that "Series 4 is a love story with a twist. The series will revolve around two main people. These two characters are dating and during the series we will explore their relationship but with a time travel alien twist. It'll be funny, loads of adventures but also heartbreaking at times. We have really pushed our actors to the limit with emotions and expressing themselves. We've really strengthened character background in this series"

This gives a new look at how the series will play out but we still don't know who these characters are? Who are the actors? Is it a boy and girl relationship or something different? Who knows. Hopefully we will get answers soon. But there is still the Doctor Who movie to come out in November.

Brand New Trailer!!! Brand New Interior!!!

A trailer for the Doctor Who Fan Movie has just been released and it features an interesting surprise.

The new trailer features the brand new Tardis Interior which was built from 30th May to the 1st September 2017. The new Tardis set has been built, painted and wired. It involves a lot of hidden gadgets and tricks which hopefully we'll get to see in the future.
Samuel Moore inside the new interior

The trailer also featured the plane interior again as well as a mysterious voice over saying "We need to create a bomb, to kill the slender... dead" this voice also appears at the end of the trailer saying "Kill them, kill them all"

We're not sure who's voice this is as it doesn't sound like Mark, Sam or Tom but we are guessing this is the main villain for the film.

It has been two months since filming begun on Series 4 and so far they are 26% the way through the series. Filming has begun for all 7 episodes of the Series.
Chris Howlett & Brandon Messer

So far there have been 12 filming get togethers with another 13 planned up until the end of October. If work continues the way it has been, then by November they will have about 55% done of the series. A trailer is expected to come out at the beginning of December for Series 4.

Christmas Special in the works - Doctor Who Movie & Series

Filming on the Doctor Who Fan Movie is nearly complete and is scheduled to air on YouTube on the 23rd November 2017. Work on Series 4 has already begun, being a month into filming. But it has recently been announced that a Christmas Special will come out in between the two. Series 4 doesn't yet have a release date but it is most likely going to come out Spring/Summer 2018.

After filming on the Movie
Tom Skinner will write the Christmas Special meaning it will be his first episode as head writer. He will also be head writer of Series 4. Filming on the special will begin sometime between September and October. It'll be a short special mainly because so much focus has gone towards Series 4.

One Month Later - Doctor Who Series 4

It has been a month since filming on Series 4 begun. The 27th June was the first day and now a month later MB & Homeland have filmed 7 times with 2 more filming days scheduled for the end of the month.
Tardis outside Royal Crescent

Filming will most likely stop for a while during August as that is a very busy time for most people, going on holidays, etc. MB & Homeland have filming days scheduled up until the end of October. So far filming has begun on 5 out of the 7 episodes planned for Series 4.

We reckon a month from now Episode 1 will nearly be completed and ready for a short premier to the cast and crew of MB & Homeland. Unfortunately there is no release date for the Series just yet.

Filming photos - Series 4 Doctor Who FanFilm

On both Facebook and Twitter MB & Homeland have posted about filming beginning. So far they have released two images on Monday 3rd and Saturday 8th July.
Filming Monday 3rd July

This was the first photo they posted and it was captioned saying this is all they could show from the day. Filming was done very early in the morning in a park. It appears that these signs are for the public so they know to avoid the cameras and lower their voices when they see filming in progress.
Filming Saturday 8th July

This photo shows a lot more. It is slightly blurred but in the image you can see Samuel Moore dress as The Doctor. It appears his outfit has changed slightly since we last saw him in the Movie Trailer. it also shows two actors. One of which we know is Brandon Messer who has been several previous episodes and films of MB & Homeland. The other one is Chris Howlett who is new to the group. He also appears to be in uniform and holding a gun. The person holding the bright light is unknown. The location they are filming at is unknown but looks underground.

This is all we know so far about Series 4. Filming is still currently happening and will do until the beginning of August. They will break for 3 weeks, then continue at the end of August through until October.

A trailer for the series is unlikely to come out until after the movie is released on 23rd November.

Filming has begun on Series 4!!

Filming started the 27th June on Series 4 of MB & Homeland's Doctor Who. The photo below was posted to their Facebook & Twitter page. This photo shows the main cast of the series but no sign of Samuel Moore yet. Its unsure how big the role of The Doctor will be this series.
[From Left] Graham Bray, Brandon Messer
Jordan Crowther-Russell,
Mark Bray & Tiegan Chidgey

This photo does have some hidden Easter eggs in it. An episode name is revealed on the clapper board that Graham is holding but its unclear who the writer is, who the director is and who the cameraman is. The room indicates a location that will appear in the series, appears to be a bedroom. Brandon, Graham and Tiegan appear to be in costume so were most likely acting that day. Also on the clapper board shows Jordan and Mark names so they were probably working behind the scenes.

After one day of filming their are reports that re-shooting will already have to take place because of problems with the police box. But apart from that the schedule is still going ahead with the next filming date on the 3rd July. Mark Bray has said that very little pictures and videos will be shown of Series 4 until January next year.

Filming on Series 4 starts in 2 WEEKS!!!!

It was revealed in the most recent News Update that filming on Doctor Who Series 4 will begin on the 3rd July. In the video Mark said that this date was "Written in pencil" meaning it wasn't definite that it would begin then but would be around that time.

Series 3 Episode 4

So far two scripts have been written with two more close to being finished. Mark has also revealed that this series will have a huge cast compared to Series 3. So far 20 people are written down to appear across the whole series with new names added every month.
Tom Ford, Samuel Moore, Aaron Hooper & Alice Barnfield

The new update also talked about something coming that would surprise a lot of people. We are unsure what this is but hopefully we will learn more soon.

Political Rage Season 2 Delayed!!!!

A brand new trailer for Season 2 just landed on the YouTube channel revealing the release date to be the 5th August, but it appears that MB & Homeland have had to change the date to the 7th October.
But why?
Well it appears to be because of filming issues. From what we've been told they are booking a place to film in but it isn't available until the end of August meaning the season can't be out before then.
Samuel Moore & Graham Bray
Filming Season 2

So what is the new release date then?
Episode 1 will be released the 7th October
Episode 2 the following week 14th October
Episode 3 the week after that 21st October

Hopefully this clears things up with people who might get confused in the near future.

The Doctor's on a plane!! But where is he going? - Doctor Who Trailer

So today a brand new trailer was released for the upcoming Doctor Who Fan Film which will come out on the 23rd November on YouTube

In the trailer there are a lot of shots of The Doctor on a plane, but where is he going and why?
A frame from the brand new trailer
Samuel Moore as The Doctor

So what is exactly happening? and how did MB & Homeland get a hold of a plane!!

So from previous episodes we've been told that The Doctor's previous incarnation [Tom Skinner] was involved in a war on Earth set in 2017 which ended in him dropping a poison bomb on the planet. Samuel Moore's Doctor intends on going back to the future and stopping the bomb from being dropped. It is unclear how he will do this without causing a paradox or bumping into his past incarnation. Tune in on the 23rd November to find out how.

As for the plane interior. Mark Bray has told us that he asked around the local area and was about the get hold of someone who had one. After a meeting with the owner, they were given permission and the got a plan together for filming days.
A frame from the brand new trailer
Jordan, Sam & Annabelle acting in a scene

So what is The Doctor doing on a plane? And where is he going?
Well its unclear and no information about the plot has been told yet. But he might be blending in as a normal human so that he doesn't get detected by his other incarnation. He might be travelling to meet with UNIT or NASA to stop the bomb or something. Hopefully we'll find out very soon.

So is Tom Skinner's Doctor bad? How can The Doctor stop past events?
Tom Skinner's Doctor isn't evil, but is very overprotected of Earth and his love for humans, he would stop at nothing to keep them safe, even killing them to protect them from other treats he thinks is kinda than letting them be kidnapped or tortured by aliens. The Doctor has got involved in past events before but not on this scale. Mark has said there will be some scenes where Sam's Doctor will be hiding for his life to avoid detection from his past self.

One Month Later - Doctor Who Series 4 Update

On the 23rd April we uploaded a blog post about Doctor Who Series 4. In the April podcast which was uploaded on the 15th April we discussed the same subject.

Now a month later, what new have we learnt?

The Series will have 7 episodes. Not 9
In our last Doctor Who blog post we said "Series 4 will have 5 to 6 episodes" but we have now decided that we will have 7 episodes and each episode already has a writer.
Adam Burrows, Ben Durrant, Tom Skinner
Mark Bray & Samuel Moore in 2014

Episode 1 & 2 will be written by Tom Skinner, he is replacing Mark Bray as head writer and will open the new Series. Episode 1 and 2 will NOT be a two parter special which we originally said in our last blog post

Episode 3 will be written by Mark Bray. So far Mark has said that his episode will come straight from the heart and will be based on real events in his life with an alien twist.

Episode 4 will be written by Samuel Moore & Graham Bray. Both previous writers but this time paired up. There is no information about the episode yet.

Episode 5 will be written by Tom Ford. This will be his second episode for Doctor Who, his first last year called "The Men of UNIT"

Episode 6 will be written by Colin Bray. His first script for Doctor Who. There is no information about the episode yet.

In our blog post we said that Jordan Crowther-Russell would help write an episode, he has since withdrawn the request and will supervise script development.

Samuel Moore WILL remain as The Doctor
Last month is was uncertain whether Sam would return but we now know that he is happy staying for one more series.
Ben Durrant, Samuel Moore, Colin Bray
& Graham Bray in Series 2

New Companion for the majority of the series
In Series 3 the companion changed nearly every episode unlikely Series 2 in which Ben Durrant played Daniel Jefferson for all episodes apart from one. This actor has been casted!!! but no information as to who they are.

Building Tardis Interior
It will begin the last week of May until the last week for June. Then it will restart the beginning of August until the end.

When will filming begin?
No date is definite yet but we are hoping the 1st July. Booking and renting has already begun and some days are written in stone during July and August.

The Padawan III is here!

Its finally here. The Padawan III was released on YouTube at 7pm, 4th May 2017 working really well with Star Wars Day #Maythefourthbewithyou

Part 1 was uploaded at 7pm with Part 2 at 8pm. The reason for it being cut in half was to avoid copyright problems.

Now that the movie is out on YouTube, MB & Homeland will stop Star Wars and focus on Political Rage which is the next show to come out. August 2017 Season 2 will be released. Then the Doctor Who Movie will come out on the 23rd November 2017.

Doctor Who Fan Film Series 4 Confirmed!!!!

On the 15th April 2017 MB & Homeland uploaded a new podcast in which they announced a brand new series of Doctor Who will air next year on their YouTube channel. Filming on this series would begin after work on the movie wraps later this year. At the moment a Doctor Who Movie is scheduled to come out on the 23rd November 2017 made by MB & Homeland and starring Samuel Moore, Harri Thompson, Tom Skinner & Mark Bray.

So what do we know about this new series?

  • The series will be shorter than the previous ones. Series 4 will have 5 to 6 episodes and a Christmas Special as well.
  • Samuel Moore will most likely continue for another series. [He's been The Doctor since October 2014]
  • A brand NEW companion will be stepping in for the majority of the series.
  • A Tardis interior is being built already!!!!!
  • Mark Bray is stepping down as 'Head Writer' and handing the role to someone else. This means he will write less than usual but will still be in charge of the series, meaning he has the final say on all decisions.
  • The series will open with a two parter story written by Tom Skinner.
  • Tom Ford, Samuel Moore & Graham Bray will be returning to write more stories.
  • Jordan Crowther-Russell & Colin Bray will help write their first stories for Doctor Who.
  • It will most likely be the last Doctor Who Series that MB & Homeland produce.

24/7 Editing on Star Wars The Padawan III

After having another small premier. The gang came up with a brand new three page list of things to edit on the film. This means that the 8% left that we mentioned in the last blog post was inaccurate. The new list has revealed that we have 12% of the film to edit. Now two weeks later since the premier, we've cut that in half with only 5.9% of the film left to edit with one month to go.
Mark Bray recording dialogue
for The Padawan III

We have voices to record, lightsabers to edit and sound effects to add. Then the film should be done. Only problem is lightsabers take a long time to edit, making them frame by frame using a plane layer.
This means editing 1 second with 1 lightsaber is 30 frames which takes about 10 minutes. Having two lightsabers for a 2 minute duel takes days.
Mark discussing plans with the crew

We have set a deadline to get everything done and that's the 18th April. This gives us time to get a real premier together to show friends and family. Also it allows us to get other videos ready such as Outtakes and Behind The Scenes.

Editing on Star Wars The Padawan III is nearly finished

Editing on the movie began on the 21st February 2015 making the opening credits and pan down. Several small shots were edited from 2nd May 2014 to 5th January 2016. Editing on actual footage began on the 18th February 2016.
The first footage edited by MB & Homeland
[From Left] Will Britton & Mark Bray

Since February 2016, we've been editing small bits as filming went by. Now the re-shoots are done and all the footage is filmed, we are now editing 24/7.
Jordan Crowther-Russell editing lightsabers frame by frame

A recently calculation showed that 92% of the film has been edited leaving just 8% left. Only 7 minutes and 6 seconds out of 1 hour and 18 minutes are left to edit. Mostly being lightsaber frame by frame editing, but also a few other audio and 3D model clips to be done. MB & Homeland to get editing done by April 1st.

The film will be released on the 4th May at youtube,com/MBHomeland
